They are our stories (and poems), right? Why should we let some random self-appointed experts tell and interpret them for us forever?! Thank you Jamie 🧚🏽 🙏
I wonder what the word fairies for "virus" and "contagion" think about how these words are used, both in the past and today. I'm exploring a bit of this in my Substack next week. Your article today is very apropos! And lovely, beautiful, fascinating. Thank you!
Oh, virus and contagion, I would say both are fairly straight forward cases of verboklepsy (theft of identity of words). Virus means poison, or more specifically the sap from a plant, which can often be poisonous. Contagion is basically the same as contact (= simply connecting through touch) but has been appropriated by the medical profession as an 'infectious contact', blamed on harmful substances. Thank you, Betsy🧚🏽 🙏 and I look forward to your post.
Euphemisms are used extensively to hide the truth; mythos has become myth, which becomes another way to hide the truth of a telling of history. Odysseus is mythos, and a powerful one at that..
Yet, it has been diluted today. We say such and such is a myth, implying a lack of veracity, whereas it used to mean a story. The reader or listener could decide whether to believe it or not. More often, it was a morality tale, more about the message than the veracity of mythos.
Mythos is hardly ever used today in its purest form. It has lost its meaning, stripped from its moorings. Part of the reason is that there is less interest and knowledge of Greek and Roman mythology, undergirding our western civilization.
Then there are the politicians and advertisers, who together have done terrible wrongs to language. When language has become so corrupted by misuse or just misunderstanding, communication becomes more difficult. Humans need help from the word fairies to reclaim language and thus communicate better.
A joy to read, and lovely to see the Word⚘Fairies making a re-appearance. In this day and age with the mass manipulation of language, amplified through digital & social-media technology, Word⚘Fairies must be working overtime. I'm sure they are up to the task ... as this delightful post shows.
I love how you return “myth” and “pheme” to their original intent, removing the lies and falsities. Joseph Campbell’s exploration of myth feels in alignment with yours, where power and truths are revealed within the story, characters, arcs and themes all intended as guides for our own unfolding.
Thank you Kimberly! Once we understand the true role of mythology (Greek or otherwise) as a way to process human experience (rather than some 'random silly stories' of our ancestors) they truly become a gateway to our truth and our power. So we can pick them up any time and follow those track, to use "as guides for our own unfolding", as you say. Isn't that brilliant and great fun?! Thank you for recognising this intention in my humble first attempts 🧚🏽 🙏🩵
This post is incredible—absolutely stunning! Congratulations on putting it all together so beautifully, and I am amazed that I've found this gem! I was so caught up in my own writing today that I took a break and discovered your post. I've plunged where all the arts lead us, and I've forgotten myself, immersed in words and our most magical human experience—universal truth, wonder, and nature. Thank you!
Thank you so much for a lovely and enthusiastic feedback and appreciation! 🧚🏽 🙏🩵
I know, I get totally immersed in my writings too (I can see from your post on 'ego' why you do). Having just read your piece I am absolutely delighted to meet you here!
This is exquisite. Your wildwordwoods are enchantment. Word Fairies of the Symbiocene seem eudaemonia itself, serving the good and true of the unfolding, intertwining whole. Why would we not want to fairy along with these verbionts?
And I cannot help but 'hear' Peter Kingsley here in his beautiful book, Reality.
It is with quivering heart that I come to your writing.
Ohh, thank you so much Renée for your kind and beautiful words. I love fairytales and (like many others) have a long history with them, reaching back to early childhood. So when I got into my own writing much later in life, it seemed only natural to invite the fairies to come along for the ride...
Peter Kingsley ~ thank you for introducing me. I already know, I must learn more about his intriguing work....
So delighted to see you here in the wildwordwoods of Symbiopædia! 🧚🏽 🙏🩵
I love this. Thanks. The lightness of style veils and reveals a depth of meaning that is "no mean business." I look forward to more from the wildwordwoods of Symbiopædia...
“Words- They know far more than our historians have betrayed and our memories can hold.”
Yes so true! Thank you for setting these verbionts free! Undressing them to their naked essence and authenticity! Now we know the real story 🙏❤️
They are our stories (and poems), right? Why should we let some random self-appointed experts tell and interpret them for us forever?! Thank you Jamie 🧚🏽 🙏
So true! Thank you for being a liberator of verbiont🙏❤️
What a beautiful and surprising post. It seems more and more people are realizing the truth of this, in their own way.
Thank you so much 🧚🏽 🙏 I believe so too. A great time for us to write our own new stories (with a little help of some invisible🧚🏽friends)
