Really enjoyed your take and definitely agree. James Clear says something like "we don't rise to the height of our goals, but we fall to the level of our systems". Resolutions are pointless as stand-alone goals, but like you say, should be an opportunity to grow. i.e. build better systems. All my friends who did dry-January have now fallen back to their old ways, which is fine, but it achieved very little long-term.
Great article, thank you. Verbing resolve --> resolving, and discipline -->discipling make a powerful new duo in cultivating epiphaning. 'Self-improvement' can be a joyful fun-filled process after all. Storyfying etymology makes the whole article much more digestible.
I know, isn't it fun?? ... turning common nouns into verbs is such a simple yet powerful way to find the deeper (or truer) meaning. This relates to the principle that indigenous languages use far more verbs, while Anthropocene language uses a lot more nouns. Verbs relate to process, while nouns state facts. Verbs tap into life, while nouns try to nail matters down. Life is about living, loving, discipling, learning...

Thank you 💖🙏 resolving + discipling = epiphaning is a fun way to doing researching too.
Great article to start the year!🙏❤️
Inner disciple of the symbiocene!
Resolve- has love in the word!
What a beautiful epiphany of new year Veronika!
Elderhood is calling me and I’m actually excited to be an “elder”! Bless you!
Thank you Jamie! Me too. Elderhood is definitely my calling too.
And this I love: "Discipline is a joy when the disciple is encouraged to play, experiment and learn at their own pace."

That is so interesting...life/process/verb...but I like the word verve....
verve ~ what a great word!
"It also means that disciple is more disciplined than discipline and far more resolute than resolution"
This made me laugh. Other parts of the post were so healing they elicited tears.
that is lovely. 💖🙏
